About Ms Fatou
Fatou DIOP SALL was born at the very moment of Senegal’s independence, and this has undoubtedly contributed to her independence and militant commitment since her youth. After the Lycée de Jeunes Filles, she studied sociology in Dakar and Saint Louis, France.
She is now full professor of sociology at the Université Gaston Berger de Saint Louis. She teaches courses in social protection policy and the sociology of gender. For over ten years, she has been teaching a course on Women of Africa and the Diasporas.
She is the founder of the Groupe d’études et de recherches genre et sociétés – GESTES. She is also President of the University’s Gender and Equity Unit (CGE). She is the author of several books and articles. For example: Senegal: Rural women facing the challenge of land citizenship, or Gender-based violence: state of research, with CODESRIA. She has carried out numerous studies in Senegal and the sub-region.
She is a volunteer with various women’s rights organizations and campaigns for knowledge production that enables us to take steps together towards gender equality.
