Sylvia Khasoa Sore wears many hats; She is a mother of 2 wonderful daughters and a wife, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Simama Na DADA(SND) Initiative, a mentor, a motivational speaker; a Community Development Practitioner, Child Protection Officer, SDG 5 and Gender Equality advocate.
Sylvia runs Simama Na DADA, an Initiative that she founded eight years ago. Through the initiative, Sylvia and her team focus on mentoring young girls and women and providing dignity Kits to 10,000 needy girls. Sylvia and her team teach girls and women about reproductive health rights as women, their roles and responsibilities, the dangers related to Teenage pregnancies and Child marriage, and the need to break the silence about sexual abuse and exploitation. Furthermore, they create awareness about the benefits of completing
education, the need to avoid bad peer groups, and the need to champion for change in the community. Lastly, they advocate for the need to create a safe environment free from bias and stigma to enable both women and girls to reach their full potential. SND Campaign is an evidence-based advocacy Campaign that calls for better policies, programming, financial investment in Women and girls. SND advocateS for gender equality and drives progress on implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a gender lens at global and national levels.
According to Sylvia, she has been Creating Safe spaces for women and girls in the community to be able to speak for themselves and make the right decision to reach their full potential. For the past 8 years, SND has been able to Mentor more than 15,000 young people.
Provided dignity kits to more than 10,000 women and girls to ensure that they Menstruate with dignity and stay in school. 6,000 girls are under their Monthly Mentorship-Leadership and distribution of dignity kits programs. SND has been working timeless to ensure that they support women in Social economic Empowerment and sustainability. In the face of the current COVID-19 Pandemic, Sylvia continues to mentor and train adolescent girls and young mothers from one of the low-income dwellings in Kenya- Kawangware slums. The girls come together to share their plights, get counselling, engage in crafts and games & Sports as well as access the right social service linkages. The platform also seeks to prepare girls to identify and hone their servant leadership skills at an early age.
Sylvia believes that it is her responsibility to inspire, mentor, motivate, elevate, educate and empower the young women and girls in Kenya and beyond. Campaigning for their rights to Education and safe health rights is her philosophy for living. Her Passion and Love for women and girls are unstoppable. Thus, for the past 8 years, Sylvia has been using her own resources and that from SND Volunteers and well-wishers to see that Simama Na DADA is able to achieve its mandate.
